Georgia High School Graduation Test
The Georgia High School Graduation Test, or GHSGT, administered to all students in the eleventh grade, determines whether or not a student is eligible to graduate from a high school in the US state of Georgia.
The test consists of five subject areas:
#English/Language Arts
#Mathematics
#Science
#Social Studies
#Writing
Students must pass all five tests to graduate from high school. They are allowed to retake a test as many times as needed, until they achieve a passing score.
Students can take the graduation tests for the first time in the eleventh grade, if they wish to graduate early. The Writing Assessment takes place in the fall, and the GHSGT in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies occur in the spring of the eleventh grade.〔(Georgia High School Graduation Tests ), Georgia Department of Education website〕
Each test is scored from 100-300, with 300 being a perfect score, and students must receive at least 200 points in order to pass each exam. A score higher than 235 will result in graduation "with honors."〔(Georgia High School Graduation Tests ), Georgia Department of Education website〕
Teachers review the testing process with the students before administering the test, and there are resources available to prepare both students and teachers for the actual taking of the test.
Additionally, the GHSGT reports a Lexile measure for each student, 〔http://www.lexile.com/about-lexile/How-to-get-lexile-measures/states/〕 which is used to match readers with targeted texts and monitor growth in reading ability.
